Recipe: Chai Hot Buttered Rum

How to make a Chai Hot Buttered Rum featuring Four Stages Spicebush Masala Chai

Want to “butter up” that special someone in your life? If you are a fan of sweets, this is the drink for you. It is actually based off a recipe for “Buttertea,” which is a savory Tibetan drink. Make yourself a fire or a cozy spot and cuddle up with this dessert beverage. Makes 2 servings.

Ingredients: Four Stages Spicebush Masala Chai (https://fourstagestea.com/chai-tea/), purified water, dark brown sugar, butter- softened, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, spiced rum, cinnamon sticks for a garnish

How to make:

1. Pour 10 oz of water into a pot and put 2 heaping teaspoons of Spicebush Masala Chai into the water. Bring to a boil, cover the pot, and let simmer for 5 min. Strain into a mug and rinse out the pot so you can keep using it.

To the pot, add  1/4 -1/3 cup dark brown sugar, depending on how sweet you are feeling. Remember, you can always add more, not take it away. Next, add 1/4 cup softened butter. After that add 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg. Lastly, add 4 oz of spiced rum and your chai tea.

Whisk together until the butter and sugar are melted and combined fully. Pour into mugs and serve with a cinnamon stick.
