Tea has so many health benefits! I’ll cover a few . First of all, tea contributes to total body hydration. So drink away! For maximum health benefits it is best to drink 3-4 cups a day. Caffeine appears in much smaller quantities in tea than theine and theobromine which give tea drinkers the lift and energy they can feel. Tea has an amino acid called L-theanine. This amino acid is only specific to the Camellia Sinensis plant and is primarily present in white and green tea. It works synergistically with the caffeine in tea to help calm our bodies but at the same time giving us a mental alertness. Because of the L-theanine, you don’t get that caffeine crash that you get with coffee. The tea leaf contains a large amount of polyphenols. Polyphenols help reduce free radicals in the body, which in turn helps to fight off diseases like cancer. The polyphenols in tea help us fight cardiovascular diseases, cancers, osteoporosis, diabetes, and some neurodegenerative diseases and may enhance overall bone and dental health. Tea also has flavonoids and antioxidants which offer many health benefits as well.
